Sodium cromoglicate
Sodium Cromoglicate works by stabilising the membrane of mast cells.
Mast cells are a part of the immune system involved with killing parasites.
In allergic people the mast cell responds to harmless substances such as pollen, pet fur and foods.
The mast cell responds by releasing chemicals that produce inflammation. This can result in the symptoms seen in eczema, asthma, allergic rhinitis and food allergies depending on where the allergen comes into contact with the body.
Sodium Cromoglicate comes in different preparations but is most commonly used as eye drops or as a nasal spray.
